Australian Football is, in my humble opinion, the greatest game in the world and I was thrilled to witness Geelong (The Mighty Cats) win their first Aussie Rules premiership in 44 long years in September 07 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of 97,000 fans.
The Cats had a fantastic season in 2007 having won 18 of their 22 games to finish on top of the premiership ladder, with Port Adelaide 3 games (and several classes) behind in second place. Geelong's winning margin over Port in the Grand Final was a massive 119 points and, for a long suffering Cat supporter, it was sheer delight to witness it first hand, particularly as I also witnessed their last flag in '63 as a 12 year old.
Geelong players also won the Brownlow Medal for best & fairest AFL player in the home & away season and almost every other award going, it was a truly amazing season of classy footy played by professionals and true sportsmen.
I now look forward to the 2008 AFL season in the hope that The Cats can re-create the same brand of beautiful football in what will be the 150th anniversary year of the birth of the code of Australian Football.
Go Cats !!
